Run It Card Game Rules

Objective: The objective of the game is to be the first player to discard all of their cards first through plays, matches (Match-It), and pass-its.

Play-it:

Players can play a card that is the same color, same number, or action on the discard pile..

Match-it:

Everytime a card is played, any player may quickly match the discarded card. Say Match-it to inform the rest of the players you are playing an identical card to the card played. The card is the exact same color, number, or action.  Only one Match-It card can be played per card. Match-it play has no order and the game’s rotation or penalty does not change. Match-it ONLY allows the player to get rid of one card. Penalties, Wild and Stop cards can be matched. A player can also win the game on a Match-It.

Pass-it:

Players can give players cards by offering a player a card.No pass can be made during a penalty series. The pass card may be useful or not, so be careful. The game can be won by a player passing their last card to another player.

SETUP

Each player is dealt 3 or more cards, 5 is ideal. For the first game the person left of the dealer goes first. Winner goes first after the first round. Dealer goes clockwise after the first game. One card is turned over to begin the game as a DISCARD pile. Any card, including a penalty or action card can be used to start the discard pile.  The remaining cards are face down and form the DRAW pile. For all other cards see directions below.

Cards in the Game

Number cards: Number cards of the same color or same number can be played upon each other. Number cards can also be matched.

Penalty cards (+1, +2, +3): Players can only play a penalty card with the same color or penalty number. The next person can add another penalty card of the same color, penalty number, or wild penalty card; move the penalty by REVERSING the (penalty), PASSING the penalty to the next person, or STOPPING the penalty. The penalty run series should be connected via penalty color or penalty numbers. The penalty run ends when a player stops the run or cannot move the run (penalty) with action cards ( Reverse, Skip or Pass, Stop) or add to the penalty with a penalty card, resulting in them drawing the designated number of cards created during the run series.

No penalty cards can be passed during a penalty. Anyone can match  a penalty card. When a penalty card is matched it only serves as a discard, it does not add to the penalty or penalty series.  When two or more draw cards are played, they create a run series. If the run series is stopped, no one pulls the penalty cards. The player who cannot stop the penalty, add to, pass, reverse penalty cards, via color, number, wild penalty or action card,  must draw the amount of cards in that particular run series. The next penalty card starts a new run series.

Reverse Penalty or Play: When a reverse card is played, the penalty or play is reversed back to the previous player.

Skip or Pass: When the skip or Pass card is played, the penalty is forwarded to the next player. If there is not a penalty, the next player is skipped

Stop: When the stop card is played it STOPS the penalty play and changes the color. The Stop card stops a penalty card or run series and No one must draw from the penalty or run series. Additionally, the color is changed.

Wild Card: When a wild card is played, you can change the color. These cards cannot be played on any penalty card.

Wild Penalty Cards: A wild penalty card can be played on any card. When a wild penalty card is played, a color is stated and a penalty, reverse, or pass card of the color can be played. The wild penalty card can be added to via penalty number also that is not the designated color. Example a wild plus 3 is played and blue is the designated color. A yellow plus 3 can be played, as the penalty connects through numbers or an additional wild penalty card can be played.

A wild penalty card can be matched also, the match serves as a discard and does not add to the penalty number.

LET’S PLAY

The dealer deals 3 or more cards. For the first game you go clockwise from the dealer, after round one, the winner goes first for the following game(s). Connect the card on the discard pile by color, number, or action. For example, if the card is a blue 3, you play a blue card, a 3 of any color, a blue penalty, or a wild card. If you do not have a card you may pull from the draw pile or a player may offer you a card. A player may pass a card, face down, to be used immediately or a card a player wants to get out of their hand. If the first card pulled or passed can be played, no additional card should be pulled or passed. If the first card is not playable another card should be pulled or passed. If the card is playable then the player can get rid of the card, if not the current player loses their turn. Players can match a card after any player plays a card, including themselves. The match-it can be played once per card; it does not add to the penalty or change the rotation of the game. The match-it is just a discard. Players will use face cards and action cards to complete the round.

Penalty Play

When a (penalty) card is played the next player will either accept the penalty due to not having a card or continue the run. For example, a blue 3 is played, the next player plays a blue +2. The following player can play a (blue +1, a +2 of any color, blue +3, to continue the penalty) or (a blue reverse, forward, or stop for the penalty action card). The penalty amount is decided by the penalty cards played in the run. For example, if a +2 is played, then another+2, and a final +2 is played, 6 cards will be picked up. The penalty run can be stopped or moved by adding a penalty card of the same penalty number or same color, this includes  reverse and passes. The penalty is given to the player who does not have an action card to play on the run. When a player takes a penalty, they forfeit their turn. The player must wait until their turn comes back around to play but can match any card.

Penalty Runs

Penalty runs are a series of penalty and action cards combined. No card can be passed during a penalty run. The penalty run series should be connected via penalty color or penalty numbers actions, or wild penalties.

Wild Cards

When a wild card is played the color changes only. When a Wild Penalty Card is played,  a color is established. The following players can add to the penalty via penalty number or penalty colored card, reverse, stop or skip/pass. For example, a red +2 is played, the next player discards a wild penalty +2, then states the color is blue. The following player can play a +2 of any color or any blue penalty card, reverse, Skip/Pass, or Stop. They may also add another wild +2 and change the color to a color of their choice. Again, the next player can add the designated colors +2 or add the designated colors reverse, forward, or stop to end the run series.

Finishing the Game

The player who gets rid of all their cards first wins.
